I actually discovered Dream Theater around this time too; both Promised Land and DT's Awake album were huge parts of my healing process.

And yes, Rage for Order also ties with Promised Land as my favorite Rÿche album as well. I relate to &quo...Thank you for sharing your story. I relate to "Promised Land" a lot as well, though less from a deeply personal perspective, and more from a "disillusioned with the world" sort of vantage point. "Promised Land" came out at the perfect time in my life as well - I was 17 at the time - and its dark themes of isolation, emotional desolation, societal ambivalence, and especially the title track, with its modern day take on the biblical idea of a "promised land" where things are somehow better than before. I was really delving into a lot of music at the time, from grunge to classic rock to extreme metal, and alongside a new found love of progressive music (I discovered Dream Theater around this time as well), this album resonated with me a lot. I wasn't as concerned with how "metal" it was, though in retrospect I understand many people's initial disappointment with the album. Rather, I felt like the album's atmosphere was so foreboding that it was plenty heavy with context and subject matter, and that the music didn't have to be loud and boisterous, because it was already heavy, in the sense that it conveyed so much in its relatively sparse presentation. I'm not in the camp that feels "Operation Mindcrime" is their best album either. Nor do I feel like "Empire" is their best work. My personal favorite Queensryche is either this, or "Rage For Order" with its atmospheric, melodic, metal-as-pop-art sort of vibe. I vacillate between the 2 albums as favorites, but I think objectively, "Promised Land" just might be the best and most important thing they ever did, musically speaking. Lyrically, it may well be their best effort also. Sadly, the band never recorded anything remotely as good as this, and kind of fell into a rut of trying to recapture the "Empire" success, but forgetting the really good songwriting like some of the earlier albums had. In any event, I'm always glad to find another fan who gushes over this album as much as I tend to, because it's brilliance is far too frequently overlooked due to its more understated approach.GameBoy Guruhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14028811620971105424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199627616976714452.post-50115813103485185662015-05-21T01:11:11.830-07:002015-05-21T01:11:11.830-07:00Thank you for reading, and thank you for the kind ...Thank you for reading, and thank you for the kind words. I have a dear friend who lives in Norway so I would love to visit your country someday. Glad you are enjoying my blog and I can't wait to review the next Queensrÿche album! :)C.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03683275250000513872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199627616976714452.post-91456089550490632582015-05-04T22:05:57.791-07:002015-05-04T22:05:57.791-07:00Thank you for sharing such a gripping and personal...Thank you for sharing such a gripping and personal story. You have really been through some hard times in your life. I know what it is like to lose someone you love. The pain, the memories, the hurt. But you also tell the story of someone who is bullied. I think you show enormous strenght by telling this after nearly 20 years. When you share something so personal and painful it takes courage. I dont know you nor will I ever know the hardship you`ve been through. But I know I came here because of one thing we have in common: the love of Queensryche. I love The Promised Land, although I dont have the personal relationship to it. I love the songs, the lyrics, the atmosphere and ofcourse the band/musicians. I hope you are in a good place in your life and that you are loved by many. You deserve it. And based on your story, you seem like a beautiful young women. Intelligent and a very good writer. If it means anything, you touched a grown man`s heart in Norway (thats the country next to Sweden).

Lots of good luck!
Torgrim JacobsenAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07193577787073802982noreply@blogger.com
